Rose Medical Center now offers a family support group for our NICU families. Every Monday from 10 - 11 a.m., this group meets to talk about infant care and support through the NICU journey. This program is done in collaboration with the Family Outreach program from the March of Dimes, which provides educational materials and craft projects for our NICU families to do together.
Some of our smallest patients will require extra attention. Newborns who are born prematurely or with serious illness may be admitted to our Level IIIB Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for more intensive medical attention. We care for babies born at or after 24 weeks gestation.
Having a baby in the NICU can be unexpected and frightening. At Rose Medical Center in Denver, we understand this, so we not only provide state-of-the-art, lifesaving care for your child, but we also treat you and your family with compassion and empathy. We believe in using the healing power of love and touch to give our youngest patients the best care possible. Our mission statement is to provide the highest quality of healthcare in collaboration with the family while supporting the optimal development of the infant.
All private rooms with accommodation for twins and triplet deliveries are equipped with a giraffe bed which transitions from the needs of the extremely premature to the needs of the “grower feeder” who is transitioning to home.
Each private room is equipped with everything needed to assist with breast milk production and feeding of your infant. Individual room refrigerators keeps the milk at your infant’s bedside. We offer specialized breast pumps designed to increase milk production for the premature infant and infant milk warmers which provide a consistent feeding temperature of the milk for optimal utilization of the nutrients.
We are blessed to have partnered with Hope through Music and have a harpist who performs weekly in our common area. It is a very peaceful and soothing experience for the infants and their families.
We recognize that private rooms are the best environment for the ill or premature infant but seek to offer socialization to the families, recognizing that you are not alone in your NICU journey. We offer daily tea time from 2-4 pm in the family lounge and bi-monthly parent support group activities.
The Rose NICU team has 55 combined years of experience in treating premature and ill newborns. Plus, our nursing staff has an average of 16 years of experience in neonatal intensive care alone. We do our best to get you and your baby home as quickly as possible, so that you can concentrate on what's important, being a family. On average, babies in our NICU go home between 36-37 weeks gestation.
