Robotic Hysterectomy Overview
The Most Advanced Type of Minimally Invasive Surgery
Hysterectomy, the surgical removal of the uterus (womb), is the second most common surgical procedure performed on women. Robot-assisted surgery offers a new alternative to traditional surgery for many women as it is the most advanced type of minimally invasive surgery available today for hysterectomies. And, Rose Medical Center is among a small number of hospitals in the region using the da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System to treat uterine cancer through a procedure called da Vinci Hysterectomy.
How Robotic Surgery Works
Through a high-tech control module, surgeons move miniaturized operating instruments that allow for extremely precise movements. In fact, robotic surgeons have a greater range of motion, they can see more clearly, and they have better dexterity when using the da Vinci system.
Advantages of Robot-Assisted Surgery
And for our patients, a robot-assisted hysterectomy has many advantages over traditional or open surgery, including:
- Smaller incisions and minimal scarring
- Less blood loss
- Less pain
- Reduced risk of infection
- Shorter hospital stay
- Quicker recovery & return to regular activity
- Less scaring
