Effective Pain Management for All!

Our goal at the Rose Spine Institute is effective pain management for all patients. With your assistance and cooperation, your patient care team will work with you to establish a realistic pain relief goal. It is important that you identify an acceptable pain level which will allow you to participate in therapy, activities of daily living (ADLs) and be comfortable at rest. The amount of pain a person feels varies from one person to another.

Our Staff
Your care team will be assessing and treating your pain during their hourly rounds or more frequently as required. You are an important part of this process and need to communicate any changes in pain type, location, level or intensity.

Here are some helpful hints for managing post surgical related pain:

Recognize pain as a message that your body needs help.
Effective pain management is part of your therapy. There are no rewards for "toughing it out," as effective pain management will enable you to do your rehabilitation more effectively and heal sooner.

Talk to us about your pain.
Assessing and evaluating are the key components of treating pain and you are the most qualified person to do this.

If a pain medication is not working, let us know.

If you find that your pain medication is no longer working or is becoming ineffective, let us know. You may need an increase in the dosage or frequency of your medication, or you may need to try a new medication or pain relief technique.

Don't be alarmed if your doctor increases the dosage of your pain medicine.
At times, the amount of pain medicine your body needs may increase. This can happen because your body has built up a tolerance to the medication. Tolerance means that your body is no longer responding to the drug or that the amount of pain has increased. If this is the situation, then your care team will work with you to change your pain regimen so it will be effective.

Remember, you are the expert on your pain and your healthcare team is there to help you manage it.
